He certainly hopes it's the latter, for a few reasons. It does surprise him. She's beautiful. A goddess in her own right, but her wants.. her needs... He relates to them on a simpler scale. A desire for love. Happiness. A family.
A lesser person would use her powers for more. For evil. What she's done.. he could never really call it cruel. It's cruel that she's felt the need for it.
